Assistance for at-a-distance Researchers
If it is not possible for you to visit the Historical Society of Cecil County to conduct family or local history
research, we have a small group of volunteers who will spend up to four hours per query searching our
vertical files, newspapers, marriage and church records, photographs, and other holdings for you. If we
are able to find materials, we will photocopy the documents and forward them to you. Our turnaround is
usually good, though remember volunteers are doing this work and processing time can be affected by
weather, the volume of requests, and winter vacations.

Here are some guidelines and suggestions when submitting a request:

1. Because we receive several requests each week, we limit each query to a maximum of about 4-hours
2. The scope of work is limited to searching our files and producing photocopies of what we believe to be
relevant documents. These materials are forwarded to you for interpretation and study.
3. Please carefully fill out the research request form. Click here to go to the form.
4. Remember our volunteers have a limited amount of time to respond to each query so keep your request
focused.
5. We charge .25-cents a page for photocopies (.20-cents for members), the actual cost of the mailing
and we ask that you add a donation to help us continue this service.
