Cecil County History & Genealogy Fact Files

The Cecil County History and Genealogy Fast Fact Files were compiled by Ernest A. Howard in the 1960s  and 1970s.  His work, following several years of patient research, was created in two forms.

· The Almanac of Cecil County Maryland—  To celebrate the County’s tercentenary in 1974, Mr. Howard compiled an almanac of basic facts related to the county.  He hoped the results would be valuable as “a historical record and useful as a ready reference for questions of facts.”  Since the title has been out-of-print for decades, it is electronically republished here.  The reader will find that the author identified an important county event for each day of the year.

· Cecil County Fast Facts File — To supplement his published work, he created a file of facts pertaining to the county.  Based on his research, put basic data pertaining to Cecil’s towns, villages, companies, geography, churches and important happenings on 3 X 5 cards.  When we begin helping a patron with an initial investigation related to local history, this is one of the first files we consult in order to see if Mr. Howard’s research contains a basic framework to help get the patron started.  Since our library staff finds it valuable, the Society’s editor, Milt Diggins, digitized the material for us so we can make it available to a wider audience on the Internet.
