An Evening
with Thomas Jefferson -- January 21
History will come to life during a
fascinating performance by Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd president of the United States,
on Saturday, January 21 at 7:00 p.m.
in Elkton. Being presented by the
Historical Society of Cecil County, the speaker from the past, dressed in a
colonial style suit with coat, waistcoat, ruffled shirt, knee breeches and
stockings, will present a one-man performance, talking about recollections from
his lifetime as a statesman, scholar, and patriot. In real life, the portrayer of the man who
penned the Declaration of Independence, is the
engaging actor Christian Johnson. He has
been doing this show for years around the county and has appeared at places
such as the Library of Congress. During
the performance of about one-hour he will pepper his presentation with humor,
stories, and history, focusing on the events of his life. Following the talk, Johnson, who has a nearly
encyclopedic knowledge of the founding father, will maintain the persona as he
fields questions from the audience, and makes himself available for
photographs.
This free program is underwritten by a generous
grant from the Cecil County Special Events Committee. The Society is located at 135 E. Main Street in Elkton. For additional information phone 410.398.1790

This
program is part of the inaugural speakers series, part of an initiative by the
Society to offer new programming to the community. The remaining performance
for this season involves Harriet Tubman who will reverse the clock to take audiences back in time on March
18. Earlier in this season's series of
offerings guests heard from Clara Barton.
These two programs were underwritten by generous grants from Maryland
Humanities Council.
