The manuscript department contains thousands of letters, diaries, minutes, ledgers and many other types of documents. These documents are classified into two broad groups: (1) manuscripts created by individuals and families are referred to as personal papers, and (2) Those created by groups and institutions, such as businesses, organizations and agencies, are generally called organizational records.

On the spreadsheet you will note that we have records from fraternal groups such as the mechanics and the Red Men, the Cecil County Medical Society, the Red Cross, the Chamber of Commerce, churches, local government, and much more.
