The Society is Blogging
At the Historical Society of Cecil County we are constantly searching for new, innovative ways to make information more accessible and to provide insight into the County’s past. So as blogs become a widely accepted, informal method for sharing information, the Society has created its own online journal. This additional step is one of a cluster of recent information technology enhancements designed to improve our services, ranging from providing patrons with wireless connectivity and three hardwired public access workstations to placing digital samples from the sound and photo collections online, as well as our research reports.
Blog is short for a weblog, basically an online journal or chronicle of information. These web pages are updated regularly with a more personal touch featuring diary-type commentary. We will use our page to informally share things we think our patrons will find of interest, whether it’s an exciting addition to the collection, a commentary on what’s happening in the local research field or just insights on how day-to-day things are going with the organization. It will be our public diary space for keeping you better informed.
As this method for sharing messages reshapes the web, we are pleased to be an early adapter just as we were with our web site back in 1996 when the Internet was much less a part of everyday life. In the months ahead we hope to continue announcing additional innovations, such as podcasts and RSS (Really Simple Syndication), which will give basic news feeds containing this day in history in Cecil and other information. Watch for these innovations in the months ahead.
