COLLECTION ALERT: Armstrong Phone Company Donates Early Documents to Society
The Armstrong Phone Company, Rising Sun, Maryland, recently donated pieces of its history to the Society. The donation in the form of boxes of documents includes the company’s earliest minute books, payroll journals, stock certificate books, ledgers, and general correspondence. These records, from Armstrong’s forerunner, Cecil Farmer’s Telephone Company, were acquired in the 1950s when the present-day organization purchased the first phone company in Rising Sun. The Maryland General Assembly incorporated Cecil Farmer’s in 1904. A large body of documentation, these records provide a nearly complete body of material for study on the early history of telephony in Cecil County.
