Patriotic
Music Program on September 11
As the nation observes the third anniversary of September 11, the Historical Society of Cecil County is remembering the terrorist attack on our country by sponsoring a program exploring the history of American patriotic music. The one-hour event, which begins at 1 p.m. at the society’s headquarters in downtown Elkton on that Saturday, features a talk by noted folklorist and author Ed Okonowicz.
During a multi-media presentation and lecture, containing music,
photos, and stories, come and hear about a variety of America’s best patriotic
songs and compositions from Yankee Doodle to the present. Learn about tales behind Yankee Doodle, Hail
to the Chief, and God Bless America.
Also, hear the different versions of the Battle Hymn of the Republic and
listen to patriotic songs that were inspired by 9/11.
The September 11 program is open to the public and cost is $2.00
for members of the Society and $3.00 for non-members. The Society is located at 135 E. Main Street in Elkton. For additional information phone
410.398.1790 or e-mail the society at history@cchistory.org.
This event is partially underwritten by a grant from the Cecil
County Arts Council.
