Eighth Anniversary of Presence on Web Marked With New Web Site Design
March 21, 2004
One spring day in 1996, the Historical Society of Cecil County created a presence on the Internet, when it made a portion of its resources available on the World Wide Web. Beginning with that first generation site eight years ago members and guests were able to read some articles from our newsletter, find information about the Society, and send e-mail queries on genealogy and local history. Over time, our virtual home, which is open around-the-clock, has grown as we sought to make available more information on County history and genealogy.
Now eight years later, as another spring at the top of the Chesapeake Bay gets underway, the Society has rolled out a makeover of its web site. At our online home, as you explore our fourth generation virtual library, you will find local history articles containing pieces on Cecil's past, and its people, communities, and industries. Also, make sure you check out the finding aids section as we publish more indexes to our collections and put more materials online. One section you may find particularly of interest is our very strong photo collection. Thanks to Dave Moore, most of our photographs and postcards have been digitized and are available online.
As you explore our Internet home, we invite your comments and suggestions via e-mail and extend a personal invitation for you to become a member of the Society. There are many things that can be done with the sophisticated technology available to us today, and as our resources permit, we hope to deliver more and more information on the web. Check back often for relevant updates as our volunteers work to expand our online services.
