Cecil County Yearbooks |
|
This section lists the yearbooks in the collection of the Historical Society of Cecil County. Please check back frequently because we are always adding items to our collection. Also, if you happen to have an issue that is not in our holdings, please consider donating the book. If you have any questions, please call the Historical Society at 410-398-1790 and ask to speak to Kyle Dixon or e-mail us at history@cchistory.org Our collection got its start when retired Cecil County Educator, Rebecca Smith, having taught in the school system from 1935 to 1976, donated 33-years of Elkton High yearbooks to the Society, in order to assure that they would have a permanent home. The Antler, the first one for the school, made its debut in 1944, and the first issue contained 44-pages. Since that time our yearbook coordinator has worked to expand the collection to cover all the schools in Cecil, in order to have a collection that, besides providing memories for graduates, makes a valuable research resource for individuals putting together a family history.
Cover to cover, there are portraits of each student, plenty of anecdotes, brief essays highlighting specific memories, advertising, photos of activities, school antics, and hand written notes. At the Society, the A. Rebecca Smith Collection and volumes donated by other individuals reveal high school years of generations of Cecil Countians, and invoke memories from decades ago. |
